Not going to see Thailand’s national sport while visiting the country would be a crying shame so with that in mind, it’s fortunate that there are so many Muay Thai venues on the island.
Muay Thai tourism is a booming industry in Phuket as many Westerners head to Phuket to train before taking part in matches at stadiums around the island.
Patong Boxing Stadium hosts regular Muay Thai nights on Mondays and Thursdays featuring Thai and ‘farang’ fighters. Cheaper than the bigger Bangla Boxing Stadium behind Jungceylon, tickets are priced at 1,000 baht.

The first fight usually starts at approximately 9pm and an evening’s program can take up to three and four hours.
Thai boxing, or Muay Thai as the Thai people call it, is a traditional art of self defense of the Thais. It is different from international boxing in that in the Thai style of unarmed fighting, feet, elbows and knees used as well as fists, thus, it resembles more to a real free for all fight and is therefore considered superior to international boxing as an art of self defense.
